The 16th China International Recycled Polyester Conference & Exhibition came to a successful end on 11 September, 2020. Though the sudden COVID-19 outbreak and spread was disastrous to the whole world and, to our regret, held our friends overseas absent from attending, we have made our largest efforts to carry on the event while ensure its persisting quality, with renowned speakers sharing their focuses on industry highlights.
Highlight: Development of R-PET industry
Li Deli, Secretary General of Recycled Fiber Commission, CCFA took a review of R-PET industry during the period of 13th Five-year Plan, while mentioned perspective in the 14th Five-year Plan, in which Mr. Li emphasized structural optimization, technology progress, green development and inner recycling, while pointed to challenges such as irregular competition, difficulties facing R-PET fiber application and limited availability of feedstock, and called for the establishment of industry standards. He also introduced recent breakthroughs in chemical-approach of polyester recycling, and progress of promoting textile recycling.
Highlight: The New Solid Waste Law
Qu Ruijing, Deputy Direct, Innovation Collaboration for Waste Sorting & Recycling contributed a speech titled The New Solid Waste Law Proposes Higher Requirements on Harmless Process of R-PET IndustryWaste, with highlights lying at Standing book system with industrial solid wastes, pollutant discharge license management system, Comprehensive utilization evaluation, Clean production audit, Credit management system and Information disclosure. Requirements on plastic medical waste management also provided quite a few hints for R-PET fiber industry, as harmless process is a key point for the whole recycling economy. Highlight: Challenges/Green Development
Other speakers from industry associations, leading enterprises shared with participants their valuable ideas and information covering green certification and green development, regulation, tariff rebate, import policy, etc. For example, Decathlon revealed its long-term targets to reduce CO2 emission, in the speech titled Green Yarn, so as to live up to the concept of green development.
Highlight: Intelligent Manufacture Assists Industry Upgrading
During the second-day session, Longfu Recycling Energy Scientech displayed their polyester carpets, which we may find them in the China National Day Parade show. Soft Gem introduced how their intelligent manufacturing innovation assists R-PET industry upgrading, while pointed out problems such as lack of high-value-added products, backward equipments and process, unstable feedstock quality and poor efficiency, high costs and structural oversupply, etc. Intertek, Nexant and CCFEI also presented speeches on R-PET market development.
While the pandemic had caused tremendous loss worldwide, sending R-PET enterprises to struggle for surviving, there are still opportunities lying ahead, with the trend of green economy showing us the way. We will continue to make joint efforts with R-PET enterprises, to pursue high quality development and upgrading of R-PET industry.
